About David

Dr. David Goodrich is the former Director of the Climate Observations Division for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). He served as Director of the Global Climate Observing System at the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, Switzerland. He was also Director of the US Global Change Research Program, the umbrella federal organization coordinating US climate research. Earlier research interests included the oceanography of Chesapeake Bay. David spent two years on a NOAA research vessel in the Bay, logging over 150 dives. David also taught high school science and currently coaches the local high school quiz bowl team.
 
After retirement in 2011, David rode by bicycle from Delaware to Oregon, talking to groups about climate change along the way. His most recent ride, from New Orleans through the Mississippi Delta, centers around the history of the blues. His book about the ride to Oregon, entitled A Hole in the Wind: A Climate Scientist’s Bicycle Journey Across the US, was released in 2017 from Pegasus Books.
